Coalition of Immokalee Workers
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers is forging a new model for labor relations in the agricultural industry, rooted in supply chain transparency and worker-driven corporate social responsibility in which farmworkers have a genuine voice in shaping their work environment. The CIW has created a sustainable blueprint that reflects Immokalee farmworkers’ original vision of change in the early 1990s: work with dignity, respect in the workplace, a just wage that can support a family, and freedom from forced labor. Its ongoing work includes the national Campaign for Fair Food, which educates consumers on farm labor exploitation and harnesses the market power of retail food corporations to eliminate human rights abuses in the fields; the Fair Food Program, which transforms that market power into systemic change for farmworkers through wage increases, comprehensive worker education, independent auditing and monitoring, and complaint investigation and resolution; and the Anti-Slavery Campaign, which has uncovered, investigated, and assisted in the prosecution of numerous farm slavery operations, helping to liberate over 1,200 workers.Projects Funded On Catapult
