We restore the lives of women who suffered from trafficking and human rights abuse in Cambodia by providing recovery services and the chance for employment.

Why we care: Cambodia is recovering from a genocide that claimed the lives of nearly 2 million people. The population lacks the education and skills required to meet increasing demands.

How we’re solving this: Providing literacy education, job training and employment opportunities to women in Phnom Penh through our Career Pathways program.

Most women and children come to Hagar with little or no education so Hagar provides formal schooling, collegiate-level education and scholarships for young women. Following literacy education we provide vocational training, on-the-job training and employment opportunities through our Career Pathways program.

We will provide tailored care to 127 women including literacy education, life skills, on the job training and real employment opportunities through our Social enterprises or business partners. These women will attend on-the job training three to four times per week and attend one to two days of work readiness for three to six months. This allows them to reinforce classroom learning through their experiences in the workplace. A team of one Employer Relationships Manager, four Employment Service Officers, and two trainers provide on-going support to these women throughout this process and for up to two years following training.

The current program includes two years of participatory quantitative and qualitative monitoring and evaluation and an annual internal reflection process, formal feedback from graduates and formal and informal feedback from employers.

By providing education and employment opportunities for women, Hagar empowers each person to grow in confidence and provide for herself and her family with dignity.

The amount raised from this project will only cover one year of this program.
